Yesterday
The original Sarnia Consumers Gas Company plant established in 1880 produced illuminating gas for the City of Sarnia from coke and crude oil. This gas plant was located on the corner of Water and Maxwell Streets in Sarnia. The Sarnia Consumers Gas Company later became known as The Sarnia Gas and Electric Light Company which produced gas and electricity for the area. In 1916, the Council of the City of Sarnia passed a by-law creating the Sarnia Hydro-Electric Commission which then purchased the assets of the Sarnia Gas and Electric Light Company.
