Information for Bluewater Power customers on meters.

On January 22, 2015 the Electrical Safety Authority announced it had directed Ontario’s electrical utilities (local distribution companies) to replace and discontinue use of a specific model of electrical meter: the Sensus 3.2 with remote disconnect. There are only 5400 of these meters reported in use in Ontario which is less than one per cent of the 4.8 million meters in Ontario.

ESA has taken this step as a proactive and preventative measure. ESA has determined that these meters can be susceptible to arcing when water or other contaminants get into the meter. There have been no serious safety incidents reported in Ontario involving this meter and probability of a serious safety event is low. Nonetheless, we are taking the prudent, preventative step and have directed these meters be removed in order to eliminate the risk.

Bluewater Power has been directed to remove these meters and will manage the replacement process. Note: Customers should not try to alter or remove the electrical meter. Only personal authorized by Bluewater Power should deal with meters.
